TBB's partnership with Family Table (a program of Jewish Family and Children's Service) makes it possible to meet the growing needs in the ever-increasing number of Jewish families experiencing food insecurity. As with other food pantries throughout the nation, Family Table is currently experiencing a decrease in donated food products. Family Table's partnership with the temple, along with our continued help this coming year, is essential for their ability to continue to provide life-sustaining food to their recipients. TBB has been assigned to collect :
30 boxes of kosher raisins  and  30 cans of kosher canned fruit
monthly for the 2010-2011 year. A driver is needed to drop off the monthly allotment of food to Family Table at 1430 Main Street, Waltham, between 9:00-11:00am. The collection dates are all on Sundays. The dates a driver is needed are:

  • Sept. 12, 2010
  • Oct. 17, 2010
  • Nov. 21, 2010
  • Dec.19, 2010
  • Jan. 23, 2011
  • Feb. 13, 2011
  • March 13, 2011
  • April 10, 2011
  • May 15, 2011
  • June 12, 2011
  • July 17, 2011
If you can deliver the food on only one day, that is fine. Please let Susan in the TBB office (617-625-0333 ) know when there is a delivery date that is good for you. Family Table requests acknowledgement of a delivery driver a week in advance of the delivery date!

Sunday, January 23, 2011 was the date for TBB's "pack and deliver day", a hands on Tzedakah experience for children and adults.   We have one date each year, in which TBB volunteers help to pack and deliver food to recipients. It's a terrific tzedakah experience and many volunteers from TBB are needed that day. More information on what to expect:

  • You will need to arrive between 10:30am and noon at the Waltham building.
  • Please enter through the back door and check in immediately at the Registration desk in the Cafeteria.
  • You will participate in a 5 minute orientation on how to pack and the confidentiality and sensitivity issues of delivering food to people's homes.
  • At that time you will be assigned two families for whom you will pack specific food orders and deliver to their homes. Family Table will provide driving directions.
  • It will take you approximately 20-30 minutes to pack two specific orders and get them to your car.
  • 99% of the deliveries are within a half an hour drive of Waltham. Family Table asks that you deliver the food immediately upon leaving the food pantry because there will be perishable products in your orders.
If you are interested in volunteering to pack and deliver groceries on an additional Sunday morning, please contact Barbara Zolit) or ext 2219 (Waltham office) to sign up. She will return your call or email to confirm if Family Table has an assignment for you.
