Welcome to Temple B'nai Brith in Somerville! We are an independent egalitarian congregation with historical roots in the Conservative  movement. Our membership reflects the wide variety of choices
people make in living Jewish lives, and we are respectful of those differences. We welcome all who care about enriching Jewish life  in Somerville and surrounding towns.

We're glad you are here!

2012 Save Our Homes Walk -  sign up to join us!

Picture
The Save Our Home 5k walk to fight homelessness in Somerville is Sunday, May 20, 2012.  The walk begins at 2:00 at Somerville High School.

Each year TBB and the Congregation B'nai Brith Children's School field a large and enthusiastic Save Our Homes Walk team. Walk with students from CBBCS and shul members as we proudly carry the TBB banner, wear our TBB tee shirts, and help raise desperately needed emergency funds to help keep Somerville families in their homes, adults at their jobs, and kids in school.  The money we raise helps more than 100 Somerville residents avoid the devastation of homelessness. 100% of the funds raised are used to assist needy families and individuals directly.   Click to sign up!

Kehillat Shabbat -- May 5 at 10:30am

Picture
We celebrate Kehillat Shabbat -- which means a "Shabbat Community" -- in our monthly service on Saturday May 5 at 10:30am.   In Kehillat Shabbat, we  create a special Shabbat space, in a congregation where there are many diverse ways of practicing and of experiencing Shabbat.

The service combines Hebrew and English, singing and responsive reading, a short Torah service, and a Torah discussion, a bibliodrama, or a literary adaptation of the weekly portion. The service is welcoming and participatory. We use some of the same melodies that are used in our regular weekly service as well as some other melodies.

You don't need to know Hebrew or have previous experience with prayer to enjoy Kehillat Shabbat – The Kehillat Shabbat prayer book is fully translated and transliterated and provides brief explanations about the prayers and rituals that accompany them

Next Tot Shabbat - May 19, 10:00-11:00am

Picture

Bring your little ones (babies to preschoolers) to our next Tot Shabbat! Sing and dance our way through  a short service, hug a Torah, read a short story with us, and follow along in our board book Siddur.   Snack is served at the end of the service.  We meet in the Kleiman sanctuary downstairs.

Rabbi Eliana in the Somerville Scout!

Somerville residents may have noticed Rabbi Eliana Jacobowitz's smiling face on the front cover of the Somerville Scout in January.   You may read and download an electronic copy of the article here.
