Some past movies have included: Everything is Illuminated, a 2005 adventure/comedy/drama, written and directed by Liev Schreiber and starring Elijah Wood and Eugene Hütz. It was adapted from the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. In the film, Jonathan Foer, a young American Jewish man, goes on a quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather during the Holocaust in a small Ukrainian town called Trachimbrod that was wiped off the map when the Nazis liquidated Eastern European shtetls. His guides are a cranky, anti-semitic grandfather, his deranged Border collie, Sammy Davis Jr. Jr., and his over- enthusiastic grandson, whose fractured command of English, passion for American pop culture, and constant chatter threaten to make the worst of every situation. But what starts out as the tour from hell turns into a meaningful journey, with an unexpected series of revelations that will change all of their lives.
The Hebrew Hammer - He's hip, he's fly, and he never mixes meat with dairy — he's the world's first Jewish private eye, and he's out to save the world in this satiric comedy. Mordechai Jefferson Carver is a super-cool Jewish detective who takes no mess and is always ready to do the right thing for his Torah-reading brothers.
the Israeli movie The Syrian Bride, shown in honor of Israel's Independence Day -
The Pianist. The film is based on the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman who, in the 1930s, was known as the most accomplished piano player in all of Poland, if not Europe. A Polish Jew, Szpilman witnesses the restrictions Nazis place on Jews in the Polish capital, from restricted access to the building of the Warsaw ghetto. As his family is rounded up to be shipped off to the Nazi labor camps, he escapes deportation and eludes capture by living in the ruins of Warsaw.
Waltz With Bashir.
